Desert Sea Oil Sadu
The question I propose is if the desert really stops at the meeting of the sea, or if it extends beneath it. I use the shore as an analogy between ancestral threads that hold together the histories of desert and sea Through habit we tend to look at the histories of the Bahara families and the Bedouin tribes of Kuwait as two separate entities, clashing, or opposing; but in this project I highlight that the sea does not crash into the shore - but instead they overlap in an ancient dance.
The Sadu House museum piece titled “Ornamentation, Braids and Tassels” has further generated this question between the relationship of both Desert and Sea histories and practices, highlighting how they too, may overlap. I’m interested in what they house, what’s buried beneath them, and - when accompanied with violent histories - how crude oil as an element plays into Kuwait’s geosphere - causing a shift in both the pearl diving and Sadu practices.
